Families across the US are accessing BabyTalk, an online verbal deaf education program delivered by two leading California-based entities via email, teletherapy and telephone.
Kudos to CNN for highlighting the value in remote service delivery (saving families time, money and relationships) by eliminating the need for round-trips to hearing-appointments.
As Kathy Sussman, executive director at the Jean Weingarten School (California), explains:
Our whole [oral] program is based on the notion that we can intervene with technology, developing listening and cognitive skills. We really are in the business of empowering parents to be effective language teachers for the children.
For families whose primary earners lack paid holidays to attend appointments, teletherapy is a lifeline – and when it’s delivered by a world-leader, the families are in good hands.
