Australia To Take Classroom Captioning ‘National’

Australia’s senate has approved funding for a National Schools Pilot Program of classroom captioning for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

The move follows classroom tests of the captioning system in the past year, with co-ordination from the respective state-level Departments of Education.

Senator Fifield, who co-sponsored the move, said the provision was a direct fit for the coalition’s Education Card policy, as debated in the 2010 election.
